How to Choose a Steel Fabrication Company in Saudi Arabia
Evaluate steel fabrication companies in Saudi Arabia: capacity, detailing, welding qualifications, quality systems, coating, logistics, safety and references.

Short answer: Choose a steel fabrication company by checking its detailing capability, monthly shop capacity, qualified welding procedures and welders, quality control and inspection records, surface treatment facilities, delivery and erection logistics, safety record and references on projects of similar size and specification.
The fabricator turns your design into a structure. Their accuracy, quality control and logistics determine how smoothly erection goes. Here is how to evaluate fabrication companies in the Kingdom.
1. Detailing and engineering
Ask who prepares shop drawings and connection designs. Strong fabricators use 3D modelling (for example Tekla Structures) and can coordinate with your consultant. Review sample shop drawings for clarity. See shop drawings for steel structures.
2. Capacity and workload
- Shop area and crane capacity
- Monthly output in tonnes
- Current backlog
- Ability to handle your heaviest members
A fabricator running at full capacity may struggle to meet your dates even if their price is good.
3. Equipment
Look for CNC beam lines (sawing and drilling), plate profiling (plasma or oxy-fuel), welding equipment suited to the work, and blast and paint facilities or reliable galvanizing partners. See plasma vs laser vs oxy-fuel cutting.
4. Welding qualifications
Request:
- Welding procedure specifications (WPS) and procedure qualification records (PQR)
- Welder qualification records
- The welding standard they work to (AWS D1.1, EN ISO 3834 / EN 1090)
Details in WPS, PQR and welder qualification.
5. Quality control
A credible fabricator has a documented quality system, an inspection and test plan for each project, material traceability by heat number, NDT capability or partners, and a final quality dossier. See steel quality inspection checklist.
6. Surface treatment
Confirm the blast standard, paint system, DFT measurement and galvanizing arrangements. For coastal sites, ask how they handle duplex systems (corrosion protection in Saudi Arabia).
7. Logistics and erection
Ask how members will be marked, sequenced and transported. If they erect, review method statements and lifting plans (steel erection planning).
8. Safety and compliance
Request their safety statistics, HSE plan, and confirm Commercial Registration, VAT and any client vendor registrations.
