Reinforcement steel bars (rebar) for concrete construction

Rebar gives concrete its tensile strength and is one of the largest steel line items on any building or infrastructure project. Diameter, grade, quantity per diameter and delivery sequencing all affect price and site productivity.

Overview

We take enquiries for deformed bars from 8 mm to 32 mm, supplied in 12 m straight lengths or cut and bent to your bar bending schedule (BBS), with mill certificates for each heat.

Available forms

  • Deformed bars 8–32 mm
  • Cut and bent rebar to BBS
  • Welded wire mesh
  • Coiled rebar (small diameters)
  • Epoxy-coated or galvanized rebar on project order

Selection guidance

How to specify reinforcement steel (rebar)

01

Weldability

Where rebar will be welded, specify a weldable grade such as ASTM A706 and agree welding procedures with the engineer.

02

Order by diameter, not just tonnage

Small diameters can be priced differently. A breakdown by diameter and length helps get an accurate comparison between offers.

03

Plan deliveries to the pour programme

Phased deliveries reduce site storage, rusting and double handling.

Documents to request

Mill test certificate per heat · SASO conformity documentation where required · Bar tags matching certificates

Reinforcement Steel (Rebar): FAQs

How do I calculate rebar weight?
Weight per metre = d² ÷ 162.2, where d is the bar diameter in mm. A 16 mm bar weighs about 1.578 kg/m, so a 12 m bar is about 18.9 kg. Use our rebar weight calculator for full schedules.
What does Grade 60 mean?
In ASTM A615, Grade 60 means a minimum yield strength of 60,000 psi, roughly 420 MPa.
Is light surface rust on rebar acceptable?
Light, tight surface rust is generally acceptable and does not reduce bond. Loose scale, flaking rust or section loss is not. Follow the project specification and engineer's guidance.
