Selection guidance

How to specify welding consumables & equipment

01

E7018 for structural work

Low-hydrogen E7018 electrodes are the standard for structural welding under AWS D1.1. Keep them dry in ovens once opened.

02

Match filler to base metal

Stainless, high-strength and dissimilar metal joints need specific fillers. Follow the approved WPS.

03

Storage matters

Moisture causes porosity and hydrogen cracking. Store low-hydrogen consumables as the manufacturer directs.

Welding Consumables & Equipment: FAQs

What is the difference between E6013 and E7018?
E6013 is an easy-to-use general-purpose rutile electrode for light fabrication. E7018 is a low-hydrogen electrode with higher strength and toughness, used for structural and critical welds.
Do E7018 electrodes need baking?
Low-hydrogen electrodes must be kept dry. Once removed from hermetic packaging they are normally stored in a holding oven, and re-baked per manufacturer instructions if exposed.
Which wire is used for MIG welding mild steel?
ER70S-6 solid wire is the most common choice for MIG welding carbon steel.
